How repayments actually work
You repay 9% of income above your plan's threshold — never 9% of the whole salary — and 6% above £21,000 for a Postgraduate Loan, which is assessed separately and stacks on top. Repayments come off per pay period through PAYE, so a bonus month triggers a bigger deduction even if your annual income wouldn't. Plan 4's £33,795 threshold means a Scottish graduate on £33,000 repays nothing at all, while an English Plan 5 graduate on the same salary repays £60 a month — one of the biggest quiet differences between the systems.
